Frequently Asked Questions
Clear answers to the questions parents ask most about paediatric rehabilitation, assessment and booking with Dr. Sana Arshad.
When should I bring my child for a rehabilitation assessment?
As early as any concern arises. Delays in sitting, standing, walking or speech, unusual posture or tone, difficulty feeding, hand preference before 12 months, or concern raised by a paediatrician — all are good reasons to book a specialist review. Early input makes the biggest difference.
What is cerebral palsy and can it be improved?
Cerebral palsy is a group of movement and posture disorders caused by a non-progressive brain injury around birth. The brain injury does not get worse, and with specialist rehabilitation — spasticity management, physiotherapy, orthotics, family training — many children can significantly improve function, mobility and participation across childhood and into adult life.
Will my child walk?
It depends on the diagnosis, severity and your child’s individual pattern. After a thorough assessment we can give an honest, realistic view and build a plan around meaningful goals — whether that is independent walking, walking with support, standing for transfers, or safe, comfortable seating and mobility.
Do you offer Botulinum toxin (Botox) injections?
Botulinum toxin can help selected children with troublesome spasticity. Our role is to assess whether it is appropriate, plan which muscles would benefit, and coordinate with specialists for safe administration — always combined with physiotherapy, splinting or casting to make the effect last.
How often will my child need follow-up?
In the first year of a new plan, review visits every 2–3 months are typical. Once the plan is stable, 4–6 monthly reviews work for most families — with extra visits around growth spurts, new goals, surgery or school changes.
Can rehabilitation help with muscular dystrophy?
Yes. For Duchenne and other muscular dystrophies, specialist rehabilitation focuses on maintaining function and quality of life — preventing contractures, prolonging walking, planning wheelchair transitions, supporting respiratory and cardiac follow-up, and coordinating school and family life. Early, structured rehab makes a real difference.
Do you work with my child’s paediatrician and school?
Yes. Specialist rehabilitation is only part of your child’s care. We write clear reports, communicate with paediatricians, surgeons and schools, and coordinate care so everyone is working from the same plan.
